Restumping vs Underpinning
Confused? They fix similar problems but for completely different types of houses. Use this tool to find out which one you need.
What is underneath your floor?
Underpinning
Underpinning is for brick homes or slabs sitting on the ground. We dig under the footing and pour concrete to extend the foundation to stable soil.
Restumping
Restumping is for timber cottages or houses with a crawl space. We jack up the floor, remove the old rotten timber stumps, and put in new steel ones.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you do both?
Yes. It is very common in Sydney to have an old timber cottage (needs restumping) with a newer brick extension at the back (needs underpinning). We handle both.
Which is cheaper?
Restumping is generally cheaper because it is easier to access and uses less concrete. Underpinning requires excavation, which adds to the cost.
